Tonkatsu Maisen
Japanese Restaurants Makati, Makati
4.7
Brought to Manila by the Suyen Group of Companies under the leadership of renowned businessman Ben Chan, Maisen brings something new to table courtesy of the pairing of the soft, lean kurobota pork and the four kinds of sauces that are unique to Maisen: akamuchi (sweet), karakuchi (Worcestershire sauce), spicy mustard, and the special kurobota spicy and sweet sauce mixed with freshly grated apples.
The best is to get a few spoonful of rice, seaweed strips and bite-sized tenderloin and place it on the bowl, add a splash of dashi stock and then enjoy. The mixture of flavors and textures will surprise you.

Maisen is very famous tonkatsu restaurant in Japan. Its tonkatsu, especially hirekatsu sandwich, is well know to Japanese. And finally Maisen came to Manila.
I ordered tenderloin katsu set. Well, as you could see from the picture, compared to other tonkatsu restaurants, tonkatsu itself was very thick!! I was surprised about it, and surely, it was delicious. And price is also cheeper than in Japan. For tonkatsu, I think it's better to eat it in Manila, rather than in Tokyo ^^

Maisen in Greenbelt is one of my best tonkatsu in Metro Manilla. It's very tasty.
Location: It locates the outside of Greenbelt 5.
Food: I ordered "Loin Katsu Set 80g". It contains Katsu, rice, cabbage, miso soup, pickle and fruit.
Katsu is more juicy than other Tonkatsu restaurant. It's more Japanese style.
We can choose two types of source "Ama-kuchi(sweet taste)" and "Kara-kuchi(spicy taste)"
Price: It's 350 pesos. so it's normal Tonkatsu price range.
Ohter: You can enjoy imported alcohol drink like Shochu, Japanese sake and Whisky. But it's expensive....
In total, I like Maisen more than Yabu...

It's Maisen, there's no way it can't be good. If you're torn between the regular and the Kurobuta, just go for the regular. It's delicious.
